With the broad objective of formulating public policies for making an all-inclusive, developed and self-reliant India 🇮🇳 in general and Odisha in particular, a pilot project titled ‘Swayamsampurna Odisha’ has been designed for implementation in Satyabadi block of Puri district in Odisha.

A brief description of the project:

Skill Mapping Study in Satyabadi Block

Objective: To conduct a skill mapping study in select villages of Odisha, identify existing and potential skill sets, and create a database that will be shared across all villages in Satyabadi block to facilitate employment and service delivery within the block.

2. Aims and Objectives

  • To map the existing skills of villagers in Satyabadi block, focusing on both skilled and semi-skilled persons;
  • To identify skill gaps and areas where training and development are needed;
  • To create a comprehensive, block-level database of skilled workers that can be accessed by local employers and communities;
  • To facilitate local employment opportunities and reduce urban migration by encouraging self-reliant blocks;
  • To design recommendations for skill development programmes based on the findings.

3. Expected Results

  • A detailed understanding of the skill sets and gaps present in the villages in Satyabadi block;
  • Creation of a block-level skill database that can be used to match match job-seekers with local employment opportunities;
  • Recommendations for targeted training programmes to fill identified skill gaps;
  • A strategy to reduce urban migration by strengthening local economies through better utilisation of local skills.

4. Significance of the Project

  • The study will contribute to rural development by creating a system to retain local talent and foster self- reliance at the block level;
  • By identifying skill gaps, the study will enable more effective skill development interventions, improving employment outcomes in rural areas;
  • The findings will inform policy and local governance, helping decision- makers allocate resources more effectively for job creation and training.

The project will provide valuable insights into the skills available in rural Odisha and offer practical solutions for improving employment and reducing urban migration. The proposed skill database will be a vital tool for facilitating local employment, strengthening local economies, and making blocks more self-reliant.
